The Merino Tencel Blend: Your Next Summer Go-To Layer

The Merino Tencel Blend: Your Next Summer Go-To Layer

There are fabrics I work with every season. And then there are fabrics that stop me in my tracks — the ones I know the moment I feel them will become something special. The Merino Tencel blend is one of those fabrics.

I released a small batch of this blend last year, and the response told me everything I needed to know. It sold out. The messages came in. Women were asking when it would be back, telling me it was the best lightweight layer they'd ever owned, that they wore it all year, that they wished they'd ordered more. That kind of feedback doesn't happen by accident. It happens when a fabric genuinely delivers.

So it's back. And I want to take a moment to tell you exactly what makes this blend so remarkable — because I think once you understand what's in it and why, you'll understand why so many women consider it their most-reached-for piece.

What's Actually In It

Every fabric I choose for Bear and Roo goes through a process of deliberate evaluation. I'm not just looking for something soft. I'm looking for something that performs in real life — through warm days, busy schedules, fluctuating temperatures, and everything in between. The Merino Tencel blend passed every one of those tests.

The composition is:

65% TENCEL™ Lyocell  |  28% Merino Wool  |  7% Spandex

Each of those fibres has a specific job. And together, they do something no single fibre could accomplish on its own.

TENCEL™ Lyocell: The Foundation

TENCEL™ Lyocell is a fibre I've worked with before — and for good reason. It's derived from sustainably sourced wood pulp and produced in a closed-loop process, meaning the solvents used are recycled rather than released. It's one of the more responsibly produced fibres available, which matters to me.

But what makes it exceptional to wear is its relationship with moisture. TENCEL™ Lyocell has a natural ability to absorb and release moisture efficiently, which means it doesn't trap heat against your body. It moves moisture away, keeps the fabric feeling fresh, and dries quickly. For warm weather, this is everything.

It also has an incredibly smooth surface at the fibre level, which translates directly into how the fabric drapes and moves. There's a fluid quality to TENCEL™ Lyocell that you can feel immediately — it doesn't stiffen, it doesn't cling uncomfortably, it simply falls beautifully.

Merino Wool: The Regulator

I know what you might be thinking. Wool in summer? Stay with me.

Merino wool is not your grandmother's itchy sweater. It's one of the finest natural fibres in the world, with individual strands so fine they bend rather than scratch — which is why merino feels soft directly against skin, not irritating. But the real reason merino belongs in a summer fabric blend is what it does to temperature.

Merino wool is naturally thermoregulating. It responds to your body's microclimate — warming you slightly when you're cool, and helping release heat when you're warm. For women experiencing the temperature fluctuations that come with perimenopause, this is not a small thing. This is a fibre that actually works with your body instead of against it.

Merino also has natural odour resistance, meaning the fabric stays fresher for longer between washes. And unlike synthetic fibres, it does this without any chemical treatment. It's just the nature of the fibre itself.

"Best lightweight shirts for perimenopause." That's real feedback from women who wore this blend last year. Merino's thermoregulating properties are exactly why.

Spandex: The Movement

The 7% spandex in this blend is what gives it stretch and recovery. This is the component that allows the fabric to move with your body rather than restricting it — and to return to its shape after wear, wash after wash.

It's a small percentage by design. Enough to give you freedom of movement and comfortable stretch, without compromising the natural hand-feel of the TENCEL™ and merino that make this fabric so special. The stretch is there when you need it. The luxury is there always.

Why This Blend Works for Summer

The reason this combination is so effective for warm weather — and for year-round wear — comes down to how the fibres complement each other.

TENCEL™ Lyocell handles moisture efficiently and gives the fabric its silky, fluid drape. Merino regulates temperature and provides natural breathability without bulk. Spandex ensures the fabric moves freely and holds its shape. The result is a fabric that feels lightweight without feeling insubstantial. It has presence — you can feel the quality — but it never feels heavy.

This is not a fabric that suffocates. It's not a fabric that clings uncomfortably or traps heat. It's a fabric that genuinely responds to your body's needs, which is why women who wore it last year reached for it again and again — through spring, summer, and into fall.

"Wear it all year." That came directly from women who ordered last year. I believe it.

What I'm Making With It

For this limited release, I'm offering the Merino Tencel blend in a curated selection of styles chosen specifically to showcase what this fabric does best. T-shirts that hang beautifully and move with you. Dresses that drape without clinging. A cardigan that layers effortlessly through temperature changes. Pants that are light enough for summer but structured enough to wear anywhere. And the romper — back by popular demand for this release only — a one-and-done piece that feels as good at the end of the day as it does at the beginning.

Every piece is made to order. That means your size, your inseam, made by me in Saskatchewan, Canada. No warehouse. No mass production. Just a garment made specifically for you, in a fabric worth waiting for.

Colours will be confirmed based on a minimum order threshold per colour — this is a pre-buy only release. A minimum of 3 to 4 orders per colour are needed to bring that colour in, which means your pre-buy helps guarantee the colourway you want actually arrives.

How to Get Access

This release is available exclusively through my VIP community on Facebook for 72 hours. It is a pre-buy only — meaning you secure your spot before I place the fabric order. Once the window closes, it's closed.

Last year this sold out. Women told me they wished they'd ordered more. I'm not saying that to create pressure — I'm saying it because it's true, and I want you to have the information you need to make your decision.

If you're not yet in the VIP community, comment MERINO on my latest Instagram post and I'll send you the link directly. On Facebook, you can join the private Bear and Roo VIP group for access.

This is a limited window. A limited fabric. And a garment made specifically for you. That combination doesn't come around often. 🤍
